A Story of Mothers, Migration, and Resilience

Inspired by the strength of Black women who built futures from almost nothing.

Mothers of the Projects is a powerful and intimate story of a Black mother's journey from the rural South to the streets of Chicago, carrying her children, her faith, and generations of inherited strength with her. Set against the backdrop of the Great Migration, this story honors the women who held families together in unfamiliar cities, raised children in housing projects, and turned scarcity into survival through love, discipline, and unwavering belief. This is not just one woman's story; it is the story of countless mothers whose sacrifices shaped entire communities.

A Legacy Written in Courage

In small kitchens and crowded apartments, mothers carried more than responsibility they carried hope. Through exhaustion and uncertainty, they showed their children how to stand tall in a world that offered little room. Mothers of the Projects captures the quiet heroism of women who led without recognition and loved without conditions.

The Backbone of the Family

The journey north was filled with promise and fear. Families left familiar soil behind for the chance at opportunity, navigating racism, poverty, and unfamiliar streets. This story brings that movement to life, honoring the courage it took to start over and the resilience required to stay.

What our client say

I couldn't stop reading this book until the very end. It was very compelling and interesting. Especially because I, at an early age, also once lived in Chicago's housing authority. I can definitely relate to some topics. This story is based on the life of a young woman who encountered hardship, disappointments, betrayal, and tragedy. A young mother, she found herself living in Chicago's housing projects with her family and struggling. But, she quickly developed close friendships and a support team with the ladies in the community. The friendships, sisterhood, and support towards each other were emphasized with details of each character. I want to applaud the author for being able to pull the reader in enough with details and specifics that will have the reader easily imagine that they were present in the story. This book will definitely have you laughing and some moments sad, possibly in tears. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, especially those who find interest in Chicago's urban history and "The Projects Era.
